Meet Dr. Jim. Professional Counselor

Real Person, Proud Father.

Today you might feel anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, or just plain confused about what to do next. Or, you might be thinking you’re a failure or not worthy of being treated with respect or being successful. That’s okay. Its just a starting point. And you don’t have to wallow there any longer.

You might be struggling in your relationship or marriage. You’re feeling stress in those relationships that result in difficulty with communication, intimacy, and just getting along with the people you love. You’re fighting more with your wife or your children. You just don’t understand why your teenagers act the way they do.

Or, unfortunately, you’re worried the relationship is coming to an end and aren’t sure what to do. Feelings of anger and frustration are overwhelming you and you are just unhappy. You’re willing to do anything to save your relationship and are willing to do the work. But you aren’t sure where to start. And you need another guy to help talk it through with you.

Men face truly unique challenges. There is always pressure to provide, to defend, to succeed. You spend a lot of your energy making sure others are okay and safe. You readily give that energy to your family, your children, your job, and sometimes your parents. You find yourself running in circles trying to be everything you think our family needs. And you feel just damned exhausted.

As good as you are at taking care of others, you aren’t doing a good job of taking care of yourself.

Your time is valuable. You set the goals for therapy and we develop a plan together to make small changes. Those small changes add up to big results in your life for family, work, school, and yourself. We’ll work through those opportunities that come with challenges. We might cuss once in a while and that’s okay. Therapy with me is about being real, engaging your strengths, and taking action.

Real Talk about

Real Life for

Real Change.

Therapy with me is about real talk and real life. As a husband and a father, I’ve felt that anxiety and experienced too many of those sleepless nights. I understand that difficulty to always show strength. I’ve been through the ups and downs at work and in my relationships with my wife and children.

You might experience some of those same challenges to fix everything like I did only to have it blow up in your face and left feeling confused about what you did wrong.

As your counselor, I will help you take risks to have more meaningful and happy relationships with others. I will also support you in developing and practicing the skills needed to achieve your own goals…to be the man you are called to be.

MY APPROACH YOUR GOALS

Therapy is about becoming your best self. I can help you get there.

I Get You…

Life can be overwhelming and filled with anxiety and other stress. I’m a regular guy who has been through some of those same challenges. I’ve struggled with balancing all of my demands I’ve also changed jobs, changed careers, and through it all, tried to do the best for my family. Just like you.

You Are…

Ambitious, hard working, and driven. But you’re feeling lost, overwhelmed and stuck. You exhausted from the rat race at work and never feeling like you are enough. You’re pulled in so many different directions that you aren’t sure which way is up or where to start. Your family is everything to you and you want better for them. You are looking for your own True North.

I Can Help You Get There

I’ve got the degrees, the licenses, and the training. More importantly, I’ve got the real life experiences that come from making mistakes in life and learning how to build better relationships or gain greater self-confidence. I use a variety of approaches that help you better understand you. How you got where you are. How you can become the best husband, father, and son for your family.

Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy for Men

  • Men have unique needs for support and encouragement. Sometimes its enough to talk it out with your buddies while throwing darts (or recently, axes!) and drinking a cold beverage. But sometimes you might need the confidential and private advice and support of a trained professional who has been where you are now and can help you navigate through.

I work with both men and women and adolescents. I understand the needs are sometimes different.

  • In short, yes. Nearly everyone who is struggling with depression or anxiety or another mental health concern also has difficulty in their relationships. A two-pronged approach that addresses both the relationship and your personal needs can help you improve your relationship quickly. But that’s just the start of the counseling opportunities.

  • I think nearly every father, including the person writing this, has felt that way. As our kids grow up, they don’t seem to need us as much. The father-daughter relationship especially can get strained. Parenting and fatherhood are an especially important area where goal oriented therapy can be of help. You will have to let your children grow up, but you can be the father they need at all stages of their lives.
