MORE ABOUT HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My office is conveniently located in Bartlett near the corner of Stage Road and Altruria. Parking is located behind the insurance office on the corner.

  • Online telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy. I use a secure, HIPPA compliant system that allows you to connect with me using your computer or phone. Telehealth therapy is a great option for those who cannot come to my office because of distance or in the event you just aren’t feeling well one day, but don’t want to miss your therapy appointment. Its not quite like Star Trek yet, but still convenient.

  • Yes! In-person therapy is available by appointment in my conveniently located office. My office space is warm and inviting and we offer complimentary coffee. Sometimes, my dog Winnie or Alastor will join us in the office.

  • I use a fee for service model and don’t work directly with insurance companies. I don’t want insurance companies to limit my work and get bogged down in justifying services based upon a diagnosis. Instead, I can provide a premium service that focuses on you, the person sitting in front of me, and not on whether someone in a call center 500 miles away is going to approve of your counseling. By setting my own fair rates and keeping my caseload small, I can work with you even if you don’t fit a diagnosis (unlike insurance). That smaller case load means I can be more responsive to your needs and flexible with scheduling.

  • Fees are largely based upon the services requested. Standard individual counseling is $145 per session. Cost for family and couples counseling may vary slightly but is usually $160-$190 per session.

  • It is completely normal to feel some anxiety about that very first counseling session…and maybe even for the first 3 or 4 sessions. But that first session will really focus on giving you the space and time to tell your story of what brought you to the office. We’ll focus on identifying strengths as well as areas for growth, set some short-term goals, and work on developing that very important working relationship. But the real counseling work will start with the second session, and the third one, and so forth as we start to dig in to what is going on and how to get the life you want.

  • There is not a definitive answer to that question. The process takes what it takes to get the goals you set. Sometimes a couple months of counseling is enough. Other times, it may take longer to achieve the desired outcome and then periodic “check ups” to maintain progress and continue to grow. I always encourage clients to give counseling at least 3-4 sessions before deciding to stop.

  • It’s taken time, but I’ve learned the importance of good boundaries. I also remembered that I have hobbies and things that I enjoy. I love to spend time with my sons and taking my dogs for walks. I cook meals with my wife and we go to high school football games together. Sometimes, she will even humor me watching a Packer game and I’ll watch a Hallmark movie with her.

But it took some time for me to find that balance and get reconnected with friends and things that I enjoyed. It might seem simple, but sometimes the simple things are hard.
